John Denver
has been a life long inspiration.
As a child, I
remember the moon chasing us late at night down the back roads of
Connecticut as we sang, “Take Me Home” in our family station
wagon....
To my parents
who stood atop Mt. Emmons, Colorado in the 70’s pondering how to
raise their family outside the rat race of New York.
The Wasatch
Mountains of Park City, Utah provided the privilege of skiing
many days.… Learning green moves and brown doesn’t….Challenging
gravity…Ripping tracks through forests of diamonds..
Today as I
swim with whale sharks; fly across the water on a kiteboard or
balance on the rail of a sailboat, John Denver’s words often
come vibrating out of me…
“I calypso the
places you’ve been to ….
The things that you show us…
The stories you tell…
I calypso.. I
sing to your spirit…
The men who have served you so long and so well….
Like the
dolphin who guides you
Bring us beside you
Light up the darkness and show us the way
For though we
are strangers in your silent world
To live on the land we must learn from the sea
To be true as
the tide
Free as the wind swell
Joyful and loving in letting it be”
Repeat!
JD the man. So
many of us love him; so few admit it. |
